About the role

As VP of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for delivering complex, high-quality projects by leading a team of talented engineers. You’ll grow the engineering team and provide them with leadership and coaching. You will lead software development projects through all stages of the product development lifecycle and manage the day-to-day activities of the frontend and backend development teams in an Agile Development environment. This role reports directly to our Chief Technology Officer.

What you’ll do

• Build and manage a team of developers (contract and FTE) to execute on product development.
• Design and build maintainable, scalable and secure software and lead the technical architecture of frontend and backend systems
• Partner with product managers, designers, and analysts to deeply understand the needs of our users and build a product that serves those needs
• Oversee technical scope, analysis, requirements gathering, design, development, prototyping, testing, documentation, and deployment of solutions leveraging React.js (web), React Native (mobile), Python Django, and AWS.
• Recruit high-performing, passionate engineers and create a culture of continuous learning.
• Set up best-practice engineering processes including testing, deployment and experimentation. Identify and improve gaps in our existing product and processes.

Who you are

• You have 7+ years of experience developing performant, scalable, mobile and/or web-based applications
• You have 3+ years of leadership experience, managing a successful engineering team. You’re comfortable managing teams of both contractors (US-based and offshore) and full-time employees .
• You have development experience and proficiency in a modern programming languages, preferably React.js, React Native, Typescript/Javascript for frontend and Python for backend.
• You have practical experience using SQL databases, relational (PostgresSQL) and document databases, ElasticSearch, and/or Redis.
• You have a healthy understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure as well as continuous deployment and integration patterns.
• You have practical experience building RESTful microservices and have successfully led teams to deliver solutions at scale.
• You have a strong sense of ownership in the business and are excited to collaborate with leaders across the organization to succeed together.
• You have excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
• You have a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline or commensurate experience.
